The Syracuse Chiefs and Local veterinarian team up to help
strike out the pet overpopulation problem.

September 4, 2008, – With help from the Syracuse Chiefs, Spay and Neuter Syracuse (SANS) is getting a hefty check from Dr. Sandra Fitzpatrick of Beaver Lake Animal Hospital. On Tuesday September 9th at 2pm in Alliance Bank Stadium, Dr. Fitzpatrick will present a $3000 dollar check to Spay and Neuter Syracuse (SANS).

Dr. Fitzpatrick approached the Syracuse Chiefs with an idea to raise money during this season’s home games by donating $20.00 for every strike out of the competing team by a Syracuse Chiefs Relief Pitcher.

“I wanted to find a way to raise awareness of the pet overpopulation problem and contribute towards the solution” says Dr. Fitzpatrick

The Syracuse Chiefs had an outstanding season with the highest season attendance in six years. With such support from the Syracuse fans, the collaboration worked out to be the perfect venue to bring two very different organizations together to help raise awareness and support for local animals.

Monies raised will go directly to SANS, Spay and Neuter Syracuse. SANS is a volunteer based 501(c)(3) non-profit low cost spay and neuter clinic dedicated to reducing the pet overpopulation problem by spaying and neutering owned cats and dogs and animals belonging to persons of low income. SANS has spayed and neutered over 4000 animals since its inception November 2005.

Beaver Lake Animal Hospital is owned and operated by Dr. Sandra Fitzpatrick. It is a full service veterinary hospital located in Baldwinsville, New York, (315) 635-6241. Their web site is www.beaverlake.myvetonline.com.

Congratulations to the Syracuse Chiefs finishing their season with over 392,028 fans in attendance. That’s the highest attendance in six years! Visit their web site at www.syracusechiefs.com.

A very special thanks to Doppler, Wayne Mahar and WSTM for a wonderful event!

SYRACUSE — The Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation established to raise funds for animal welfare, made donations Monday of $1,250 to the CNY SPCA and $750 to Spay & Neuter Syracuse. Donations were handed out at the WSTM-TV studios on James Street.

The Foundation’s first ever event was held on June 21 at the OnCenter in Syracuse. The event was called “Doppler’s Birthday Bash”.

The Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation was established by Wayne Mahar, Chief Meteorologist at WSTM, in memory of his Mother, Priscilla Mahar, who passed away in 2007 at age 85. Wayne’s Mother loved all animals, and especially loved to visit Doppler the weather cat on her visits to Syracuse.

Foundation committee members include Nicholas & Patti Pirro, Lee Woodard, Lisa Chelenza and Caitlin Mahar. Wayne would like to say a big thank you to the major sponsors for Doppler’s Birthday Party, WSTM and Wegmans. Also, thanks to the numerous co-sponsors and advertisers, patrons, volunteers and all who helped make it a success.
